Are addictive patterns putting compulsion, isolation, and exhaustion at the center of your daily life… where you had hoped possibilities, connection, and joy would be?
Perhaps your loved ones, friends, and colleagues are starting to question the stories you’ve been telling to justify your actions… perhaps you’re even doubting them yourself. You may be neglecting self-care and feeling the effects of stretching yourself too thin. Maybe you’ve noticed you’re isolating more and more, pulling back from the people you care about the most. You may have even begun to wonder, “Do I know myself at all anymore?”
If you’re beginning to notice a disturbing “new normal,” where you’re…
- Falling further and further behind in one or more areas of your life as your addictive behaviors grow
- Becoming less engaged and feeling less worthy in your relationships, your career, and your sense of self
- Getting caught in a cycle of acting out addictively –> feeling shame –> more acting out –> more shame –> on and on…
… then Therapy for Addiction Recovery can help.
It may seem impossible now, but you can be free from these patterns. You can feel your emotions in a balanced way, without either doubling down on them or numbing them out. You can experience life fully, wholeheartedly, and joyously. And I am here to help you create this new way of being.
Therapy for Addiction Recovery empowers you to find a new way forward, where you can…
- Get honest about your addiction and set a course for releasing it
- Begin healing the sources of your addiction and your perpetual life stress, often rooted in childhood
- Learn new ways to feel your emotions and get your needs met
- One day discover that you can’t even remember your last craving and that you are living the life you desire
I’ll walk alongside you on this journey, considering, with each step, your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to Addiction Recovery Therapy comes from the deep hope I’ve experienced firsthand and a true belief in your capacity to live with integrity, one day at a time.

FAQs
Q: What will happen in Addiction Recovery sessions?
A: We will consider the ways that addictions have functioned in your life and explore more effective ways to get your needs met. For instance, for someone who feels numb a lot of the time, addictive behavior might serve to let you “feel alive.” We can recognize and even appreciate that the addiction may have served this purpose at first, but then we go on to explore the opposite effect that addiction has brought over time and to discover new practices that will truly help you feel alive.
Q: How long do I need to be in therapy to recover from addiction?
A: Addiction Recovery Therapy often parallels, and can deepen and enhance, Twelve Step recovery, so greater involvement in a Twelve Step or some other program of recovery may mean the need for fewer sessions overall. (Click here for more info on the effectiveness of Twelve Step recovery.) Time spent in therapy is also affected by how large and intricate the roots of your addictive patterns (often from childhood trauma) prove to be. However, root work often happens in stages, so as long as you have a solid program in the present, we can collaborate on determining a good point to conclude our therapeutic work together, with the understanding that we can collaborate again on future stages of root work, if that should be desired.
Q: What sorts of addictions can be treated?
A: I can support you in finding recovery from all sorts of addictions, including those that involve mind-altering substances (alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription medications, other “drugs and chemicals of concern,” etc.) and those under the umbrella of “process addictions,” meaning addiction to behaviors not tied to substance use. These include emotional eating, gambling, gaming, “retail therapy,” smart phone and social media use, etc. These also include relationship addictions (love, romance, sex, etc.) and relational co-addictions (focusing on others’ addictions/mental health issues and on broken/dysfunctional systems within the family, a friend group, your workplace, etc.). The longing is the same no matter the type of addiction, so as one addiction is addressed, it is common for addiction substitution to occur. So addressing addiction more broadly is the best way to a quality life.
Q: How do we get started?
A: Call to set up a free 15-minute phone call, and we will visit about the addictive patterns you’ve been noticing in your life, explore other issues and areas of concern, and collaborate to set forth a few goals to start out with. Then we’ll determine how often we’ll meet, set up an appointment, and discuss some resources you can explore in the meantime.
